6 You demanded security...; you stripped people of... 7 You gave no water... you withheld food from the hungry, 8 You sent widows away empty-handed...  10 and broke the strength of the fatherless. 13 you say, ‘What does God know?

III. Reflection

* QuestionsFrom this chapter:

  • How many times did Eliphaz accuse Job of wrongdoing?
  • How many times did Eliphaz presume to speak for the Lord by making promises on His behalf?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God,

Thank You for showing me that Eliphaz accused Job of wrongdoing seven times in just a few short sentences. Thank You for reminding me that, despite those accusations, You Yourself declared Job to be blameless and upright (1:8).

Lord Jesus, thank You for bringing me to this passage and reminding me of Your teaching that the hour is coming when those who kill Your people will think they are offering worship to God (John 16:2).

O Lord, please help me not to be surprised by the hardships that come with following You. Help me to remain faithful through trials and to pray more fervently for my brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering in even harsher ways today.

Amen.
