II. One thing the Bible teaches: (king Ahaziah relied on another god concerning his illness. The Lord sent a message to him through the prophet Elijah, saying...)
16 ... Because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron—is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of His word?—therefore you shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but shall surely die.
III. Reflection
* Questions: Who was Baal-zebub?
IV. Application
Dear Lord God: I thank You for letting me know that You want Your people to inquire of You--only You. And when we do not, pitfalls are set up to cause us to ask other gods for help. These gods could be disguised with an outer spiritual, scientific, technological, medical, or financial garment. And I may get involved with these gods intentionally, or not. Your Word today is telling us that, when that happens, we could become the present-day Ahaziah, suffering from prolonged and tormented illnesses. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me that You really do want Your children to pray to You (Matthew 7:7) and that You are inclining Your ear to listen. O Lord! Please encourage me to pray unceasingly and fervently. Today. Amen
