Everlasting, or momentary joy...

I. Click here to READ Job 20 first.

II. One thing the Bible teaches: (Zophar cited a principle known for ages...)

4 Do you know this from ancient times, From the establishment of mankind on earth,
5 That the rejoicing of the wicked is short, And the joy of the godless momentary?
6 Though his arrogance reaches the heavens, And his head touches the clouds, 7 He perishes forever like his refuse; Those who have seen him will say, ‘Where is he?’

III. Reflection

* QuestionsWhat is described as passing quickly—the rejoicing of the wicked, the joy of the godless, the wicked themselves, or the godless themselves?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God,

I thank You for reminding me that not only the rejoicing of the wicked and the joy of the godless are short-lived, but that such people themselves soon pass away and are no longer found. Their ways, their pleasures, and even their influence are temporary and fleeting.

Lord Jesus, I thank You for bringing me to this point and for reminding me of Your Word, which calls me also to live as a temporary resident on this earth, a sojourner and pilgrim (1 Peter 2:11). Help me, O Lord, to remain faithful to Your teaching and Your calling by abstaining from worldly desires that wage war against my soul.

Please continually remind me that I am only passing through this world on my journey home. Keep me focused on Your path, without wandering or losing my way. Today. Amen.
