Rumors Humor...

I. Click here to READ Nehemiah 6 first.

II. One thing the Bible teaches: (Nehemiah had a sincere heart to rebuild the wall of the temple of the Lord. But his good intentions were quickly accused by his enemies of being a military plot against the emperor. They meant to destroy the trustworthy name of a man who loved his people and honored his God. They said...)

In it was written: It is reported among the nations, and Geshem says, that you and the Jews plan to rebel; therefore, according to these rumors, you are rebuilding the wall, that you may be their king. And you have also appointed prophets to proclaim concerning you at Jerusalem, saying, “There is a king in Judah!”

III. Reflection

QuestionsWhat was the most glaring mistake Nehemiah's enemies made among the many accusations they had against him in the above two verses?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God: I thank You for teaching me how wise and sincere a man Nehemiah was. It was no surprise to see that many people hated him and wanted to see him destroyed, socially and even physically. But it was a surprise to see evil people make a fundamental mistake in citing their sources of information as rumors (v6). I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me of Your being wrongfully and outrageously accused as well (Luke 23:2). O Lord! Please teach me today to never act on rumors. Please give me a cool head to pray.  First. Amen
