Side with the powerless...

I. Click here to READ Nehemiah 5 first.

II. One thing the Bible teaches: (The wall reconstruction work was progressing. The lives of the returnees were unfolding in their own land. Poverty could not be hidden. Social injustice existed even among Jewish brothers. Nehemiah reacted, saying...)

Then I was very angry when I had heard their outcry and these words.

III. Reflection

QuestionsWhy was Nehemiah's anger justified?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God: I thank You for showing me that even among brothers, injustice can be done to certain groups of powerless people. I thank You for letting me see the appropriateness of Nehemiah's anger when he saw slavery among Your people and that they were taken advantage of financially. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me of Your love and care for the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind (Luke 14:12-14)—the left-behind minority in society. O Lord! Please teach me to be like Nehemiah to side with the powerless, especially my brothers or sisters in the community of faith. Today. Amen
