19 ... “What is this thing you are doing? Are you rebelling against the king?” 20 So [Nehemiah] answered them and said to them, "The God of heaven will give us success..."

* Questions: To Nehemiah, what was to be the response to mocking and despising by people who know God not?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God: I thank You for showing me that a mock for a mock and despising for being despised were no response from the people of the Lord. I thank You for showing me that people behave as such because they do not know You. I thank You for showing me that Nehemiah was filling that gap when he kindly responded the way he did—seizing the moment to talk about You. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for bringing me to this point and reminding me of Your Word—that people's lives and behavior will be transformed when they intimately know You (Ephesians 4:20-24). O Lord! Let me show the yet-to-believe people just that: the changes in my life because of Your work in me. May You save them and change them as well. Today. Amen
