II. One thing the Bible teaches:

1 After these things and these acts of faithfulness [removing idols worshiping, reforming the priesthood, revitalizing the contribution system in the temple], Sennacherib king of Assyria came and invaded Judah and encamped against the fortified cities, thinking to win them for himself.

III. Reflection

QuestionsWhy did the invasion from Assyria come right after such God-pleasing accomplishments by king Hezekiah?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God: I thank You for the transparency of Your Wordit was not written to appease the readers. It was written for divine instruction. While it may be upsetting to someone who saw an invasion as a "reward" right after accomplishing Godly work and acts of faithfulness, it was not upsetting to king Hezekiah. It was through it, indeed, that You showed him how amazingly You battled for him and how miraculously You saved him! I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to assure me of Your being the all-knowing God (Matthew 10:30). O Lord! Today, please let me put my trust in You even when things may happen that I do not understand. Please teach me to trust that whatever things come from You must be good for metoday or in the days to come. Amen
