II. One thing the Bible teaches: (many people, but not all, responded to the call to return to Jerusalem to keep the Passover, for they had not kept it as often as prescribed...)

22 And Hezekiah spoke encouragingly to all the Levites who showed good skill in the service of the Lord. So they ate the food of the festival for seven days, sacrificing peace offerings and giving thanks to the Lord, the God of their fathers.

III. Reflection

QuestionsWhat fueled the mood of festivity in worship among the Israelites who returned?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God, I thank You for showing me that an encouraging word could do wonders. People can be beaten up physically or verbally to be forced to work, or they can be convinced and encouraged to be productive in carrying out their responsibilities. I thank God for letting me see that king Hezekiah chose to encourage his people verbally. And it worked out so well for everyone. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for bringing me to this point, reminding me that You are the source of encouragement (Romans 15:5). O Lord! Please give me this encouragement so that I know what to say and how to say it to lift my brothers and sisters up and encourage them along on this life journey today. Amen
