Have you no sins?...

II. One thing the Bible teaches: (because the southern kingdom of Judah sinned, the Lord gave them into the northern kingdom, Israel. They struck them, killed a lot of them, and took a lot of them captives. The prophet Oded came to confront the Israeli army, saying...)

10 And now you intend to subjugate the people of Judah and Jerusalem, male and female, as your slaves. Have you not sins of your own against the Lord your God?

III. Reflection

QuestionsHow does the Scripture answer the Prophet Oded's question as posed to the Israel's army commanders?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God: I thank You for showing me that there was no answer from Israel's army commanders when they were questioned as to whether they had any sins against the Lord. There was no answer because there was absolutely no chance that they hadn't committed any sins against You! Because of that, they should not have been so violently harsh with their brothers and sisters in the south. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for bringing me to this point to remind me of Your Word: because everyone has sinned, everyone is a slave to sin (John 8:34), no more, no less. O Lord! Today, please help me recognize that I am no better than the brothers and sisters around me in the community of faith or in society. Please help me to live with humility and a grateful heart for the salvation from You. Amen

Dear Lord Jesus, I pray for certain readers to realize that there is no way they have not committed sins. And there is no way they can work themselves out of this bondage...except by through You and by Your salvation; it's a gift free of charge. Dear Holy Spirit, please lead them to repentance to be in Your sheep pen. Today. Amen
