II. One thing the Bible teaches: (Jehoiada had been the mentor of king Joash since he was too young to remember...)

17 Now, after the death of Jehoiada, the princes of Judah came and paid homage to the king. Then the king listened to them. 18 And they abandoned the house of the Lord, the God of their fathers, and served the Asherim and the idols. And wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this guilt of theirs. 19 Yet he sent prophets among them to bring them back to the LordThese testified against them, but they would not pay attention.

IV. Application

Dear Lord God: I thank You for showing me that You are a patient God. You are not there watching and waiting for people to make mistakes to strike them with Your punishing rod. I thank You for showing me that such was the case with King Joash. You sent prophets--many of them--with an effort to bring Your wayward children back to You. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for bringing me to this point, reminding me that Your primary mission when You stepped into the world was to call people to repentance and return to You for redemption. And You are still waiting even today (Mark 1:14-152 Peter 3:9). O Lord! Today, please help me show patience toward others, as You have shown me patience many, many times. And also, please help me to repent today. Amen
