II. One thing the Bible teaches: (in the family line of Judah, there was Jabez...)

Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.” 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested. [NKJV]

III. Reflection

QuestionsHow is it that one can be in pain because one causes others to have pain?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God: I thank You for showing me that causing pain in others may be the cause of my being troubled, grieved, and in pain myself. I thank You for showing me that the prayer of not wanting to cause others pain is a prayer that pleases You. And You would grant the request. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me of Your teaching that I am to treat people the way I want to be treated (Luke 6:31). O Lord! Today, please help me not to cause people to suffer pain-- physically, mentally, or emotionally by my actions or words.  Amen
