Outside of the David's family tree...
I. Click here to READ 1 Chr 2 first.
II. One thing the Bible teaches: (The lineage from Israel to David was terminated at the house of Yishai, also known as Jesse...)
1 These are the sons of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, 2 Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher...
13 Jesse fathered Eliab his firstborn, Abinadab the second, Shimea the third, 14 Nethanel the fourth, Raddai the fifth, 15 Ozem the sixth, David the seventh...
55 The clans also of the scribes who lived at Jabez: the Tirathites, the Shimeathites and the Sucathites. These are the Kenites who came from Hammath, the father of the house of Rechab.
III. Reflection
* Questions: Why did the naming of so many names outside of David's line (v. 13) continue through verse 55, which did not lead to Christ?
IV. Application
Dear Lord God: I thank You for showing me that the Bible is about Christ but also about humanity as well. It was about humanity and Christ entered the world through the lineage of David. Although I do not know the reasons for the rest of the sea of people's names outside of David's line, I thank You for letting me know they represented humanity whom You cared for and You came to die for. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me that You came for humanity--the poor, the captives, the blind, and the oppressed (Luke 4:18-19). O Lord! Today, may I remember that the sheep that went astray were very much in Your mind. And Your salvation needs to be channeled to the lost, particularly. Use me, Lord, and use my resources to help that spreading of the Gospel to the poor, the captives, the blind, and the oppressed. Today. Amen
