II. One thing the Bible teaches: (knowing that David had been anointed to be king over all Israel, the Philistines searched for David to fight against him...)

Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim. 10 David inquired of God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will You give them into my hand?” Then the Lord said to him, “Go up, for I will give them into your hand...”

13 The Philistines made yet another raid in the valley. 14 David inquired again of God, and God said to him, “You shall not go up after them; circle around behind them and come at them in front of the balsam trees.

III. Reflection

QuestionsWhat is noteworthy in David's prayers and in God's replies to his prayers?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God, I thank You for letting me know that David prayed for Your guidance frequently, although his prayers were the same. I thank You for showing me that You replied differently and specifically each time he prayed to You. Please help me remember that it would have been militarily disastrous if David had not prayed to You — although it was the same prayer. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me of Your teaching that I ought to always pray to You (Luke 18:1). O Lord! Please help me to do just that: pray to You always and not lose heart. Amen
