II. One thing the Bible teaches: (the used-to-be unknown woman—known only since the Lord acted on her son through Elisha—came home after years of famine, having lost everything. She went to her king for help, who wanted to know more about the man of God, Elisha...)
4 Now the king was talking with Gehazi, the servant of the man of God, saying, “Please relate to me all the great things that Elisha has done.” 5 As he was relating to the king how he had restored to life the one who was dead, behold, the woman whose son he had restored to life appealed to the king for her house and for her field. And Gehazi said, “My lord, O king, this is the woman and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.” 6 When the king asked the woman, she related it to him. So the king appointed for her a certain officer, saying, “Restore all that was hers and all the produce of the field from the day that she left the land even until now.”
III. Reflection
* Questions: Did the action taken by this woman make her bold, brave, or risky? What happened afterwards?
IV. Application
Dear Lord God, I thank You for letting me know that it is not that important to correctly label the woman for her actions. What is more important is the realization that she had needs, that she knew whom to turn to in order to get help, and that she was not shy about letting her needs be known. And that yielded incredible results from a loving and merciful king (v6). I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me of Your encouraging us to cast all our needs onto You (1 Peter 5:7). O Lord! Please help me to be like that woman running to You with my needs, trusting that You care for Your own, and can care much better than that king could have done. I thank You, Lord. Please help me to boldly ask today. Amen
