Darker than darkness...

I. Click here to READ 2 Kings 21 first.

II. One thing the Bible teaches:

11 “Because Manasseh king of Judah has done these abominations, having done wickedly more than all the Amorites did who were before him, and has also made Judah sin with his idols; 12 therefore thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘Behold, I am bringing such calamity on Jerusalem and Judah, that whoever hears of it, both his ears will tingle.

III. Reflection

QuestionsWhat would cause one to be surprised the most when reading the above two scripture verses?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God: I thank You for pointing out to me that the most surprising thing was that Your elect people could, and, in fact, they did, do things more wickedly than the Amorites (v11). And as a consequence, the punishment for them was a calamity. And a calamity it was! I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me of something darker than darkness (Matthew 6:22-23). O Lord! Please help me to realize the great danger of the possibility of my becoming worse than non-Christians. How shameful that might be then! How much that will sadden You! May I run to the Savior every day to seek cleansing and forgiveness. May I find myself forgiven and forgiving. May my forgiving be done more genuinely and gladly than that of the non-Christians. Amen

Today, I pray for certain readers who think of themselves as being undeserving of Your love and forgiveness. Please remind them of the undeservingness of Your chosen people, yet You loved them and forgave them, still. O Holy Spirit! Please lead them to the Cross for them to be loved and forgiven. Today. Amen
