Grand sin of grandma...

I. Click here to READ 2 Kings 11 first.

II. One thing the Bible teaches:

When Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she rose and destroyed all the royal offspring. But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him from among the king’s sons who were being put to death, and placed him and his nurse in the bedroom. So they hid him from Athaliah, and he was not put to death.

III. Reflection

QuestionsWhat was grand in Grandma Athaliah?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God: I thank You for showing me that what was grand in Grandma Athaliah was the grand desire for power and the throne. So grand that it blinded her to have seen nothing wrong, even with the killing of all of her bloodline's loved ones. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me of Your teaching of the meaninglessness of having all at the expense of the soul (Matthew 16:26). O Lord! Today, please let me not forget the value of my soul--so valuable that You came to die to redeem it. Let me not be blinded by anything grand in life, to have it exchanged for eternity. Amen
