His greatest act of mercy...

II. One thing the Bible teaches: (The whole country of Israel suffered severely from a plague caused by David's action. Seventy thousand people died as a consequence...)

25 David built there an altar to the Lord and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. Thus the Lord was moved by prayer for the land, and the plague was held back from Israel.

III. Reflection

* Questions: What caused the plague to stop over Israel? Was it the building of the altar? Was it the offering of sacrifices? Was it the prayer?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God: while I do not know exactly what actually led to the stoppage of the pestilence over Israel, I do know who actually stopped the dying among the population. It was the Almighty God, the God whose great mercies David truly counted on as he and the Israelites went through this calamity. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me of Your greatest act of mercy. That was when You let all the sinners go forgivingly free after paying for their freedom with Your own life on the cross (Romans 5:8). O Lord! Today, please help me be merciful to others around me. Amen
