Really have wisdom? Listen...

I. Click here to READ 2 Samuel 20 first.

II. One thing the Bible teaches: (Sheba, whom David declared to be even more dangerous to his kingdom than Absalom, went to seek refuge in the city named Abel Beth-maacah. David's top General, Joab, pursued him and intended to destroy the wall of the city to gain access to Sheba...)

16 Then a wise woman called from the city, “Hear, hear! Please tell Joab, ‘Come here that I may speak with you.’” 17 So he approached her, and the woman said, “Are you Joab?” And he answered, “I am.” Then she said to him, “Listen to the words of your maidservant.” And he answered, “I am listening.”

III. Reflection

QuestionsThere were two wise people in the above passage. Who were they? Why?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God: I thank You for showing me not one but two wise people in the above passage. A wise woman who dared to speak up despite her social status. And a wise man who dared to listen despite his highly regarded social status. That woman's wisdom saved her city from being ruined. That man's wisdom saved his army from the loss of life in bringing down the wall for fighting. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me of Your teaching about the reason You created our ears--to hear (Matthew 11:15). O Lord! Today, please help me to sincerely and humbly listen to wisdom from Your Word, or other men and women, starting from right here at home. Amen

O Lord! I pray for certain readers who are too busy to hear the words of wisdom affecting his or her eternity. May they listen to the Savior's call to come to You to rest their souls and enjoy Your peace, starting with the peace of Nativity this year. Amen
