II. One thing the Bible teaches: (Absalom asked for advice from two counselors. They both gave competing plans of attack to kill David, his father. Ahithophel gave his strategy, and Hushai explained why Ahithophel's strategy was not good this time...)
23 Now when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey and arose and went to his home, to his city, and set his house in order, and strangled himself; thus he died and was buried in the grave of his father.
III. Reflection
* Questions: What were the actions Ahithophel did before dying? How important were they?
IV. Application
Dear Lord God: I thank You for showing me that Ahithophel, a Royal Strategist, took several actions before he died. The last thing he did was to set his house in order. It must be very important because You did instruct king Hezekiah to do just that (2 Kings 20:1). I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me of Your teaching for us to get ready for the time when the day is no more (John 9:4). O Lord! Today, please help me set my house--and myself--in order so that I can be ready to meet my Maker. Amen
Today I pray for certain reader who is still too busy to set his house or her life in order for the moment s/he has to step into the eternity. I pray for that reader to extend his or her hand out to You to walk into the glorious eternity... with You. Amen
