A yardstick for our time...

II. One thing the Bible teaches: (The prophet from Bethel wanted to get the prophet from Judah to turn around to go to his home and eat bread with him. The prophet from Judah said...)
16 ... “I cannot return with you, nor go with you, nor will I eat bread or drink water with you in this place. 17 For a command came to me by the word of the Lord, ‘You shall eat no bread, nor drink water there; do not return by going the way which you came.’” 18 He said to him, “I also am a prophet like you, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the Lord, saying, ‘Bring him back with you to your house, that he may eat bread and drink water.’” But he lied to him.
III. Reflection
* Questions: What should we do these days when almost everyone around us is citing the name of the Lord in a lot of things to justify their actions or decisions?
IV. Application
Dear Lord God, I thank You for showing me that even those in spiritual high places may lie and often cite Your holy name to lend credence to what they are saying or doing. I thank You, Lord, for showing me the yardstick to live in our days of instant communication and information overload. And that is You will never contradict Yourself. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me that You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. And with that, Your word will not change (Matthew 24:35). O Lord! Please encourage me to study and practice Your unchanging Word so that no one can deceive me in this dangerous and ungodly time of ours. Amen
