II. One thing the Bible teaches: (David allowed his son Absalom to come back from self-exile after killing his brother, Amnon. However, Absalom was not allowed to go into the palace to see the father king...)
28 Now Absalom lived two full years in Jerusalem, and did not see the king’s face. 29 Then Absalom sent for Joab, to send him to the king, but he would not come to him. So he sent again a second time, but he would not come. 30 Therefore he said to his servants, “See, Joab’s field is next to mine, and he has barley there; go and set it on fire.” So Absalom’s servants set the field on fire.
III. Reflection
* Questions: What indicated that Absalom was very desirous to go see his king, the father, but to no avail?
IV. Application
Dear Lord God: I thank You for letting me see that being in the presence of the king was not something to take for granted, even when that king was Absalom's father. Absalom waited patiently as the two-year time period passed. Absalom tried repeatedly to get help to be given an opportunity to go see the king. Absalom did wrong by being impatient in waiting. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me that You opened up the way--the only way--so that people can freely go to the Father (John 14:6). That road had been blockaded for the longest time because of sin. That road was made red by the crucifixion. O Lord! Today, let me not take it lightly when I come into Your presence. Let me go into Your presence with heartfelt reverence. Amen
O Lord! Today, I pray for certain readers who are yet to realize what a privilege it is to be in the sheep pen of Yours. Please lead them into the Way of eternity of blessings. Today. Amen
