Hold on now! God knows best...

I. Click here to READ 1 Samuel 29 first.

II. One thing the Bible teaches: (the Philistine army was preparing a big attack against the Israelites, and David and his army wanted to be on the Philistines' side to fight with them. The Philistine commanders mistrusted David and insisted that king Achish send David back to his Philistine home away from the battlefield...)

David said to Achish, “But what have I done? And what have you found in your servant from the day when I came before you to this day, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?”

III. Reflection

QuestionsWhat must David be feeling in being rejected from his volunteering to fight for king Achish?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God: I thank You for letting me feel the hurt that David must have felt when he was not allowed to return a favor by fighting for the king who had been helping him so much when he was in dire need, while running away from Saul. I thank You for reminding me that Your plan was much better than what David could have come up with, as he does not know about tomorrow. Through the rejection, David did not have to kill his own people, the Israelites. Through the rejection, David was able to rescue his family and community, who were living in the Philistine area; they were being raided by another people's group at that time. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me that You are the way (John 14:6)--not for me to survey, to admire, or to debate, but to step on and travel. O Lord! I confess that I don't know much and that I can't see far. Help me to trust You today to run my life. You know best what is best for me. Please remind me to walk Your way. Amen
