Hallowed be Your Name...
I. Click here to READ 1 Samuel 23 first.
II. One thing the Bible teaches: (The Lord told David to come to rescue the city of Keilah and its people from the oppressive hand of the Philistines. David led his fighters to Keilah as the Lord told him, and David delivered the people of Keilah...)
7 When it was told Saul that David had come to Keilah, Saul said, “God has delivered him into my hand, for he shut himself in by entering a city with double gates and bars.”
III. Reflection
* Questions: How was it that what Saul said was a misuse of the name of the Lord (or taking His Name in vain)?
IV. Application
Dear Lord God: I thank You for letting me see how Saul misused Your name when he said that You said something when You never did tell him. You never said that You would deliver David into Saul's hand. In fact, You did the opposite--You delivered David from Saul's hand (v.14; v. 28). I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me of the prayer that You teach us to do as we prayerfully live every day, "Our Father in heaven, may Your Name be kept holy." (Mt. 6:9) Dear Lord, please help me today to refrain from saying that the Lord said something when You never did. May Your Name be kept holy. Amen
