3 Then Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If you return to the Lord with all your heart, remove the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you and direct your hearts to the Lord and serve Him alone; and He will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.” 4 So the sons of Israel removed the Baals and the Ashtaroth and served the Lord alone.

* Questions: How did the Israelites respond to what Samuel told them to do?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God, I thank You for showing me how the Israelites responded to Your instruction through Samuel on how to be delivered from the long-time Philistine rule. They responded immediately and unconditionally by removing statues and worshiping You alone. Then, they were liberated in the same immediate manner. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for bringing me to this point to remind me of Your teaching not to harden my heart when You speak to me today (Hebrews 3:15). O Lord! Please help me to yield to Your instructing me. Yes, today. Amen
