Tsunami of sins and His holy blood of forgiving...
I. Click here to READ 1 Samuel 4 first.
II. One thing the Bible teaches (when the anxiously waiting Eli was asking the news courier for a report on how things went regarding the battle between the Israelites and the Philistines...)
17 Then the one who brought the news replied, “Israel has fled before the Philistines and there has also been a great slaughter among the people, and your two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God has been taken.”
III. Reflection
* Questions: Could there be any worse news, more devastating than the tsunami of bad news that struck Eli the priest on that day?
IV. Application
Dear Lord God, I thank you for showing me that this tsunami of bad news, one after another, is similar to the one that Job suffered (Job 1). What happened to Job, however, was because of his being blameless and upright. What happened to Eli here was a result of his and his family's tendency to blame others. Job's tsunami was a test. Eli's tsunami was a punishment. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me that You have the power, through the shedding of Your blood, to forgive me of all my sins (1 John 1:9). O Lord! No tsunami of sins is so great that You have not already overcome. I thank You for forgiving me. Amen
O Lord Jesus, the Savior. I pray for certain readers today who are overcome by deadly waves of sins. Please urge them to reach out for Your saving hand. Today. Amen
