First know Him, then Hear Him...

II. One thing the Bible teaches (The Lord called Samuel 3 times, and each time he mistook the call as coming from Eli, the Priest...)

Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, nor had the word of the Lord yet been revealed to him.

III. Reflection

QuestionsHow did the Lord respond to Samuel's mistaking Eli for Him each time of the three times He called?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God, I thank You for showing me that Samuel did not recognize Your calling him. I thank You for letting me know that You did not mind or react negatively to the young boy's mistakes at all. In fact, You patiently called him again for the 4th time. You did not give up on the young boy. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me that people need to know You before they can recognize Your calling them. How could a young and new follower of You know Your voice, spiritually? Your Word reminds me that they couldn't. It takes time (Mark 4:26-27). O Lord! Today, please remind me to treat my brothers and sisters, the newcomers in Christ, with patience as You treated Samuel, and me! May I remember to give them time to know You first. They will recognize You, naturally, eventually. Amen

O Lord! Many people mistake God for the gods. They mistake Your love for luck and causality. I thank You that You love them still. May You urge me to take whatever opportunity I have to say what I can to let them know about You. Knowing You will lead to hearing You. Amen
