II. One thing the Bible teaches: (on the way to flee from king Saul, and when he came to the king of Gath, David lied and falsified several times...)
2 David said to Ahimelech the priest, “The king has commissioned me with a matter... I have directed the young men to a certain place.... 8 David said to Ahimelech, “Now is there not a spear or a sword on hand? For I brought neither my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king’s matter was urgent.” . . . 13 So [David] disguised his sanity before them [king of Gath and his servants], and acted insanely in their hands, and scribbled on the doors of the gate, and let his saliva run down into his beard.
III. Reflection
* Questions: How many times altogether here did David lie and falsify? Elsewhere, did he commit other similar deceptions like these?
IV. Application
Dear Lord God, I thank You for showing me the many mistakes David surely made in his life. I thank you for showing me that Your holy Word never attempts to hide the many mistakes of Your elect. I thank You for letting me see clearly that David was a very real person with real needs, real fears, and real failures. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me that You came to seek the sick and the lost, not the healthy and the righteous (Luke 19:10; 5:31). O Lord! Thank You for getting rid of my excuse for sinning because, as good as David was, he sinned too, and gravely sometimes. Thank You for encouraging me to live on as David did, however, after heartfelt repentance. Amen
O Lord! Today, I pray for certain readers who are bothered so much because of the sins they committed in the past. So overwhelmed with sins that they lose the meaning of living. I pray that they they may realize that it was they whom You had come to sacrifice Your life to give the salvation to--and to humanity. I pray that he or she will accept the forgiveness of sin from You to start living a life of peace, being stress-free, and blessed. Amen
