To Avoid or to Confront...

I. Click here to READ 1 Samuel 20 first.

II. One thing the Bible teaches: (To communicate to the hiding David as to whether to run away from king Saul, who had determined to kill David, Jonathan made an arrangement with David...)

20 I will shoot three arrows to the side, as though I shot at a target. 21 And behold, I will send the lad, saying, ‘Go, find the arrows.’ If I specifically say to the lad, ‘Behold, the arrows are on this side of you, get them,’ then come; for there is safety for you and no harm, as the Lord lives.   22 But if I say to the youth, ‘Behold, the arrows are beyond you,’ go, for the Lord has sent you away.

III. Reflection

QuestionsWhat was it supposed to mean to David when the signal received was, "Behold, the arrows are beyond you [Jonathan's servant]"?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God, I thank You for letting me know that David was a man of battles. He won many battles, earning high praise from many people. But, at this time in his fighting career, the signal came through indicating that the Lord had decided to send him away hiding--to avoid the face-to-face confrontation with the raging Saul. And the fighting soldier in David yielded to Your command. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me that I need to be responsive to the prompting of the Holy Spirit in my life (Luke 12:12). O Lord! Today, please help me to stay or to go as directed by You. Today, please remind me that there is a time to confront someone, but also a time to hide my face from them — all in Your directing.  Amen

O Lord! I pray for certain readers today who have not yielded to Your command to "Follow Me". May the resisting mind or heart in them be softened by Your love to come and be saved. Today. Amen
