Three No's, no trouble...

18 Then Saul said to Ahijah, “Bring the ark of God here.” For the ark of God was at that time with the sons of Israel. 19 While Saul talked to the priest, the commotion in the camp of the Philistines continued and increased; so Saul said to the priest, “Withdraw your hand.” . . . 24 Now the men of Israel were hard-pressed on that day, for Saul had put the people under oath, saying, “Cursed be the man who eats food before evening, and until I have avenged myself on my enemies.” So none of the people tasted food . . . 36 . . . So the priest said, “Let us draw near to God here.” 37 Saul inquired of God, “Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will You give them into the hand of Israel?” But He did not answer him on that day. 

III. Reflection

* Questions: In the passage above, Saul ran into three different No's, which ones were they?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God, I thank You for showing me that although Saul encountered three different negatives — no's — the battle was still won. He had no consultation with You (v. 19), he ordered soldiers to eat no food (v. 24), and he had no answer from You (v. 37). O Lord! The love You had for Your people was indeed a love despite the mistakes that Saul made one after another. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me that You went on to die on the cross despite the rejection from the people whom You came to save (John 1:11). Dear Lord! Today, please remind me to be at peace, because You will not abandon me or let me be just because I have made mistakes — and many of them. Your mercy is vast--much greater than my many mistakes combined. Praise the Lord! Amen
