Can do vs. May do...

II. One thing the Bible teaches: (under the military pressure posed by the Philistines on the outside and, internally, by his own people, Saul could not wait for Samuel to come to officiate the offerings as promised. So he did it himself...)
10 As soon as he finished offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him and to greet him. 11 But Samuel said, “What have you done?”... 13 Samuel said to Saul, “You have acted foolishly; you have not kept the commandment of the Lord your God, which He commanded you, for now the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever.
III. Reflection
* Questions: Wasn't Saul selected by the Lord and called by Him to be king of Israel? Why did the Lord get angry at His chosen man?
IV. Application
Dear Lord God: I thank You for letting me know that Saul was indeed the man selected by You to be king of Your people. However, being called does not equate to being free to do anything one wants. He wasn't called to do everything or be everyone. In fact, no one has such a calling. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me that different people are given different abilities and responsibilities by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:27-31). You intended for Your people to depend on each other. O Lord! Today, please get rid of the thought in me that leads me to believe deceptively that I can do everything or I may do everything. Amen
O Lord Jesus! Today I pray for certain readers to realize what they can do and may do, and that is to come to the cross where You had offered Yourself to die as a payment for everyone's sin. You also were resurrected to prove your victory over death--bringing hope for everyone who is living. May Your salvation enter the lives of those readers. Today. Amen
