A painfully deep and thoughtful question...

I. Click here to READ Judges 2 first.

II. One thing the Bible teaches

Now the angel of the Lord came up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, “I brought you up out of Egypt and led you into the land which I have sworn to your fathers; and I said, ‘I will never break My covenant with you, and as for you, you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall tear down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed Me; what is this you have done?

III. Reflection

QuestionsIs there another question in the Bible that is as painfully deep and thoughtful as this one that the Lord has asked the Israelites, "But you have not obeyed Me; what is this you have done?"

IV. Application

Dear Lord God. I thank You for showing me the very sad side of You, the side the grieving God feels when His children sin in disobeying You. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me of perhaps the saddest moment of all when, in fear, Your beloved and respected disciple, Peter, repeatedly denied any knowing of You or any relationship with You. Although the question You asked him that night was speechless, it was painfully deep and heartbroken--when a rooster crowed, You turned and looked at him (Luke 22:61-62). Only Peter knew what You asked Him because he responded to it with a bitterly repenting weep. O Lord Jesus! please make it my goal today to make You happy as I live and as I practice obeying You. Train me, Lord. Amen
