Having appearance, No substance...

II. One thing the Bible teaches (there was a mother and her son, Micah. The mother lost, or it was stolen from her, eleven hundred pieces of silver...)

He said to his mother, “The eleven hundred pieces of silver which were taken from you, about which you uttered a curse in my hearing, behold, the silver is with me; I took it.” And his mother said, “Blessed be my son by the Lord....” 3. . . and his mother said, “I wholly dedicate the silver from my hand to the Lord for my son to make a graven image and a molten image; now therefore, I will return them to you.” 4 So when he returned the silver to his mother, his mother took two hundred pieces of silver and gave them to the silversmith who made them into a graven image and a molten image,

III. Reflection

QuestionsThe mother sounded very spiritual in her speech. What did she say?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God: I thank You for showing me the instances when the mother sounded very spiritual: (1) She asked the Lord to bless her son, (2) She said she wholly dedicated the just-returned 1100 pieces of silver to the Lord. However, You also showed me that she was in fact not truly spiritual--she worshipped image, and she was not truthful. She did not wholly dedicate what she restored from the thief--only 200 pieces of silver instead. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me to be aware of outward believers--having forms but not substance (2 Timothy 3:5). Dear Lord Jesus, today, please help me to live a life that is pleasing to You because You can see through. Amen
