First priority: mercy...

II. One thing the Bible teaches (Right after settling in the promised land...)

1 Then the Lord spoke to Joshua, saying, 2 “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, Designate the cities of refuge, of which I spoke to you through Moses, 3 that the manslayer who kills any person unintentionally, without premeditation, may flee there, and they shall become your refuge from the avenger of blood.

III. Reflection

QuestionsWhat is the meaning of refugee from the passage above?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God, I thank You for showing me the commonality that all refugees have. They all come from a life-threatening environment, they all come away fleeing, and they all need someone to reach out to extend mercy to them. I am grateful for the reminder that I was a refugee. I fear, however, that I have forgotten already the life-threatening environment that I was fleeing from. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me that You are the Horn of my Salvation (Luke 1:67-69). In You, I find the almighty strength of salvation. In You, I am safe, physically and spiritually. O Lord! Please help bring back the memory of the condition that I sought refuge from, so that I can be more than grateful for the condition that I am in today. Help me, Lord, to extend mercy to others as You instructed the Israelites to do as the first priority as soon as they settled in the Promised Land. Amen
