From Jericho to the Gospel, all in the decibels...

I. Click here to READ Joshua 6 first.

II. One thing the Bible teaches (The Israelites were instructed to walk around the fortified Jericho once each day for 6 days. On the 7th day, especially, it was to be done 7 times.  At the right time on this day, all the people ought to shout at the same time...)

20 So the people shouted, and priests blew the trumpets; and when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted with a great shout and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight ahead, and they took the city.

III. Reflection

QuestionsWhat did the Lord use to cause the fortified Jericho wall to fall? Where is its power mentioned again in the Bible?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God: I thank You for showing me that the thin and weak air, when vibrated, can be commanded by You to be so very powerful. In this case, the resultant sound reduced the famously fortified wall of Jericho to rubble. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for reminding me that sound, or voice, can have a more powerful spiritual impact — it leads to faith (Romans 10:17) when used to share Christ. O Holy Spirit! Please give me an opportunity to verbally share the Gospel of Jesus Christ today. I confess that it is Your power and mercy to convict the hearer to be able to trust and obey Christ the Savior. Please urge me to speak. Amen
