7 Now these are the kings of the land whom Joshua and the sons of Israel defeated beyond the Jordan toward the west... 9 the king of Jericho, one; the king of Ai, which is beside Bethel, one; 10 the king of Jerusalem, one... 24 the king of Tirzah, one: in all, thirty-one kings.

* Questions: How significant was the naming of each of the 31 countries involved in the above Scriptural passage?

IV. Application

Dear Lord God: I thank You for showing me that the promised land was very real; it was not a legend. The ones whose lands were dislodged were real witnesses in history — 31 countries with a global presence in the Middle East. Each of these was named singly. Also real was the one to whom the lands were given — the Israelites. As a result, the One who made all these things happen in the history of the world was very real—the Lord God Jehovah. He was real, and He is forever, within history and beyond the reach of history. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me that Your divine birth was witnessed historically as well. People can trace it back to the Roman Empire—real history with real people (Luke 2:1-3). Today, O Lord! Please help me to revere Your Word in the Holy Bible and, taking a step further, to follow its real instructions. Everyday. Amen
