II. One thing the Bible teaches
18 If any man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey his father or his mother, and when they chastise him, he will not even listen to them, 19 then his father and mother shall seize him, and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gateway of his hometown. 20 They shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey us, he is a glutton and a drunkard.’ 21 Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death; so you shall remove the evil from your midst, and all Israel will hear of it and fear.
* Questions: What was the significance of having both the father and mother turn in the son to the "authority"?
IV. Application:
Dear Lord God, I thank You for showing me the case of two very credible witnesses who turned their son in to the authorities because of his stubbornness, rebelliousness, and parental disobedience. No one could be more credible than the parent-witnesses. As a result, the certainty of the son's being convicted is assured. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me that, on the cross, Your Father turned away, leaving You alone to shed blood dying for the sin of man's stubbornness, rebelliousness, and disobedience--me! (Matthew 26:28). Today, Lord, I pray that I can see vividly the image of You standing in to take the stone-to-death punishment for me. I am very thankful, Lord. Amen
Today, I pray for certain readers who are yet to let You stand in for them to bear the eternal punishment. Have patience with them and save them, O Lord, for they know not what they are doing. Amen
