II. One thing the Bible teaches: (Moses reminded the Israelites of the journey they had made since the exodus from Egypt...)
19 “Then we set out from Horeb, and went through all that great and terrible wilderness which you saw on the way to the hill country of the Amorites, just as the Lord our God had commanded us; and we came to Kadesh-barnea.
III. Reflection
* Questions: How was the road to the promised land described by the one who actually walked on it all the way?
IV. Application:
Dear Lord God: I thank You for showing me clearly today that the road to the promised land wasn't then, and isn't now, rosy. It was, indeed, terrible and frightening at times. But the road did lead to the promised land flowing with milk and honey, and the travelers did have You as a constant companion, day and night. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me that we will have trouble, tribulation, and affliction in the world (Jn 16:33). I also thank You for reminding me of Your name--Immanuel-- God with us. You will be with me always, constantly, until the end of time (Matthew 28:20) when I reach the promised land. Today, please help me keep going. Amen
I pray today for certain readers who are yet to join the journey to the spiritual Promised Land. Please help them know that the road will not be rosy all the time, but You will be there constantly to shepherd them through. Amen
