Revenge not, Wait for the Lord...

I. Click here to READ Numbers 31 first.

II. One thing the Bible teaches

Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Take full vengeance for the sons of Israel on the Midianites; afterward you will be gathered to your people.” Moses spoke to the people, saying, “Arm men from among you for the war, that they may go against Midian to execute the Lord’s vengeance on Midian.

III. Reflection

QuestionsWhat were the Israelites afflicted with that caused such a strong and full vengeance from the Lord against the Midianites?

IV. Application:

Dear Lord God: I thank You for reminding me that since sin entered humanity it has been a "life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand and foot for foot" type of society (Deut 19:21). Thank You for the reminder that the slaughter of Midian in this chapter was a "life-for-life" consequence for the 24,000 Israelites that were killed also at the Lord's command due to sexual sin with the Midian not too long before that. I thank You, Holy Spirit, for taking me to this point to remind me that vengeance belongs to the Lord (Romans 12:19). It takes the Lord to do, and it takes His timing to happen. O Lord! Today, please help me to live out my faith in believing that You are the Lord who hears, who sees, and whose arm is not too short to act. Please help me wait for You. Amen
