His death cures our death...

II. One thing the Bible teaches: (The Israelites sinned by complaining against the Lord and by despising the heavenly-provided daily food that the Lord had arranged for them. Consequently...)
6 Then the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died. 7 And the people came to Moses and said, “We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord and against you. Pray to the Lord, that he take away the serpents from us.” So Moses prayed for the people. 8 And the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.”
III. Reflection
* Questions: Why must people look at the snake? Why must it be set on a pole? Why must it be a snake? Why must it be after the snake bite to do the looking? Why shouldn't one look at it to prevent a snake bite in the first place?
IV. Application:
Dear Lord God, I thank You for showing me the "live-by-believing" principle that started in the wilderness long ago. The opportunity was there in that place with an offer to everyone injured by the snake bite to believe the word that, by looking at the snake on the tree, any dying person would live. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me of You being offered up to everyone who suffers from spiritual death. The remedy has been that, by believing in Your atoning death on that tree on the Calvary hill, Your death can heal anyone's spiritual and eternal death. O Lord! Please give me the opportunity to spread this simple good news today. Amen
O Lord! Today, I pray for certain readers who have not lived well spiritually. May they believe that by looking to the cross to accept the salvation that You have made available through Your death. May Your death cure their death from spiritual illnesses. Forever. Amen
