The ends vs. the means...
I. Click here to READ Numbers 20 first.
II. One thing the Bible teaches: (The Lord told Moses to take the rod, assemble the people, and speak to the rock to obtain water to drink. Moses took the rod, assembled the people, chastised them, and angrily struck the rock; water came out for them to drink...)
12 But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you have not believed Me, to treat Me as holy in the sight of the sons of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.”
III. Reflection
* Questions: Wasn't having water for people and their animals in the desert to drink the end result? Why was such a harsh punishment for Moses and Aaron?
IV. Application:
Dear Lord God, I thank You for letting me see clearly here that the ends do not justify the means. Water is very important, but it is not to be had at any cost, especially the cost of not honoring and hallowing You. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me that believing You--treating You as holy in the sight of the world--is important. Help me today, Lord Jesus, to demonstrate that Believing is an action-oriented word (John 13:17). It is not to describe a state of being by lip service. O God! Please help my unbelief. Amen
