II. One thing the Bible teaches: (Moses was talking to the group of people who spoke and acted against his leadership...)
31 As he finished speaking all these words, the ground that was under them split open; 32 and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, and their households, and all the men who belonged to Korah with their possessions. 33 So they and all that belonged to them went down alive to Sheol; and the earth closed over them, and they perished from the midst of the assembly. 34 All Israel who were around them fled at their outcry, for they said, “The earth may swallow us up!” 35 Fire also came forth from the Lord and consumed the two hundred and fifty men who were offering the incense.
III. Reflection
* Questions: Who died on that day when a group of people rose up to oppose Moses' leadership in the wilderness? What were they doing when they died?
IV. Application:
Dear Lord God, I thank You for showing me that 250 people died while they were offering You incense (Num 16:35). The Lord saw the inside of these people. Outwardly, they were worshiping You; however, they could not distract You. Their inside intent was rebellious. Their inside intent was prideful--whatever Aaron and the priests could do, they said they could do as well. And they all died in a fire from God. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me that when I worship You, I must worship in spirit and truth (John 4:24), which cannot exclude the virtue of patience, humility, kindness, meekness, and love for the people around me. All these are internal and only You can see them. And You do. O Lord! Please help me. Amen
