Obey vs. Opine...

I. Click here to READ Numbers 13 first.

II. One thing the Bible teaches(Moses sent 12 leaders out to explore the land to seek answers to the following questions:)

18 See what the land is likeand whether the people who live in it are strong or weak, whether they are few or many. 19 How is the land in which they live, is it good or bad? And how are the cities in which they live, are they like open camps or with fortifications? 20 How is the land, is it fat or lean? Are there trees in it or not? Make an effort then to get some of the fruit of the land.

III. Reflection

QuestionsOf all the requests for intelligence, which ones did the spies completely ignore? Of all the answers provided by the spies, which ones were not requested?

IV. Application:

Dear Lord God, I thank You for helping me see the incompleteness of the report by the returned spies. Selected leaders, though they were, failed to provide the requested information specifically prepared for them at the start of the mission. They did not report on the number of people whom they will potentially encounter (few or many). They did not report on the type of soil of the land which they will occupy (fat or lean). And they did not report whether there were trees in it. In place of the needed information, the spies provided uncalled-for information based on their own opinion and assessment. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me of the blessing for those who obey You (Luke 11:28). O Lord! Today, please help me obey You rather than express my opinion. Amen
