A persisting wise leader...

II. One thing the Bible teaches: (The Israelites set out from Mount Sinai to go to the promised land...)
29 And Moses said to Hobab the son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses' father-in-law, “We are setting out for the place of which the Lord said, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us, and we will do good to you, for the Lord has promised good to Israel.” 30 But he said to him, “I will not go. I will depart to my own land and to my kindred.” 31 And he said, “Please do not leave us, for you know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you will serve as eyes for us. 32 And if you do go with us, whatever good the Lord will do to us, the same will we do to you.”
33 So they set out from the mount of the Lord three days' journey...
III. Reflection
* Questions: What made Moses' gift of leadership outstanding?
IV. Application:
Dear Lord God, I thank You for showing me that Moses' leadership gift was outstanding when he set aside his self-loving egotism for the sake of a greater mission. When Hobab, a wilderness expert, wanted to leave the exodus Israelites to go home to his own people, Moses did not take no for an answer; he pressed on to humbly ask the man to go with his people to serve as their eyes in the wilderness. Moses, indeed, was a humble man (Num 12:3)--a beautiful character of a leader from the Lord. I thank You, Lord Jesus, for confirming this character that pleases You and that You will bless (Mt 23:11-12). O God! Please train me to be humble as I live and work among Your people. Please teach me to have this humbling persistence from Moses. Amen
