A louder-than-thunder silence...
I. Click here to READ Exodus 9 first.
II. One thing the Bible teaches: (Pharaoh asked Moses to pray so that the Lord would stop the plague of thunder and hail because Pharaoh said he had sinned and would now let God's people go...)
29 Moses said to him, “As soon as I go out of the city, I will spread out my hands to the Lord; the thunder will cease and there will be hail no longer, that you may know that the earth is the Lord’s. 30 But as for you and your servants, I know that you do not yet fear the Lord God.”
III. Reflection
* Questions: How many times did Pharaoh already promise to let God's people go and then change his mind when the plague was stopped? Why did Moses, having known this pattern full well, still pray to God to stop the 7th plague? Why did God stop the plague even though He knew Pharaoh would lie again?
IV. Application:
Dear Lord God: I thank You for reminding me that I am no better than Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. I am thankful for the many times You listened to my pledge to be a better person although already You knew that it was but a necessary pledge of a moment from me. I thank You, Lord, for going along with me to use that moment to teach me how big Your love is and how patient You have been with me! I thank You, Lord God, for taking me to this point to show me how the Lord Jesus treated Judas Iscariot so graciously even though He knew all along of the man's plot against Him (John 13:24-30). O Lord! About the pharaoh-me, You knew full well! Please let me not take advantage of Your kindness. May I change not because I promise You but because of Your silence--such louder-than-thunder silence. Such loving silence! I pray that I will respond to Your blessed patience by being patient with others. Today. Amen
