Life or Death Near or Far Make it the will of the Father...

II. One thing the Bible teaches:
17 Now when Pharaoh had let the people go, God did not lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines, even though it was near; for God said, “The people might change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt.” 18 Hence God led the people around by the way of the wilderness to the Red Sea . . .
III. Reflection
* Questions: How much longer was the way around the wilderness that the Lord took His people through? Did God intend for them to wander in the wilderness that long?
IV. Application:
Dear Lord God: I thank You for reminding me that Your ways are incomparably higher than mine. Please forgive me for the times when I complained about not having my way. Please forgive me for the times when I looked for the optimal solution, the shortest solution, and the least expensive solution when You seemed to take me on a path that was, in every aspect, just the opposite. Dear Lord God, please train me to trust You. Thank You for taking me to this point to remind me that the Lord Jesus' ways were quite different as well--to conquer death, He must succumb to death; to give life to all, He must give up his own life (Luke 9:22, 1 The 5:10). Dear Lord Jesus, please train me to trust You in following Your ways--it could be nearer, it could be farther; it could mean life, it could mean death. May Your will be done. Amen
