Scripture instead of Traditions...

II. One thing the Bible teaches: (On his departure from Canaan for Egypt, God appeared to Jacob in a vision..."
3 He said, “I am God, the God of your father; do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you a great nation there. 4 I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also surely bring you up again; and Joseph will close your eyes.”
III. Reflection
* Questions: Why was Jacob afraid to go down to Egypt? What did the Lord do to help pacify his fright? Did it make sense to have a country (even a greater country) in the territory of another country?
IV. Application:
Dear Lord God: Please let me be assured that what You told my fathers (such as "not to go to Egypt") may not apply to me today (such as "go to Egypt.") Help me, Lord, to seek Your will in Scripture rather than in pass-down traditions. Thank You, Lord, for showing me that since it was possible to have a nation (even a greater nation) within another, I can believe and be sure that Your Kingdom will surely be established right here in the world's kingdom! You do expect me, however, to be in the world and not of it (John 17:15-16). Yes, Lord Jesus, please teach me then help me then train me to live each day by Your unchanging Word, not by the traditions being passed down to me through generations. Amen.
I pray for those readers who, because of family traditions, are not open to hear Your good news. May the Holy Spirit move them to know that one can be saved and blessed by believing in the salvation work of the Lord Jesus Christ. Let such readers not be afraid to make that decision. Today. Amen
