Offending the King...
I. Click here to READ first Genesis 40
II. One thing the Bible teaches:
1 Then it came about after these things, that the cupbearer and the baker for the king of Egypt offended their lord, the king of Egypt. 2 And Pharaoh was furious with his two officials, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker. 3 So he put them in confinement . . . in the prison, the same place where Joseph was imprisoned.
III. Reflection
* Questions: What could the two officials have possibly done that offended the king so much?
IV. Application:
Dear Lord God: I thank You for reminding me that I do not know what the officials did that offended the king so much. But if I were in their shoes, I would playfully sit on the king's throne when he wasn't around taking advantage of my close relationship with him in the palace. That would surely offend the king (1 Kings 1:20-21) because that represents supreme power. O God! I thank You for taking me to this point to remind me that many times--not once--I have sat on Your throne in my life. I actually--not playfully--took over Your kingship offending You a great deal. But You have been so merciful to me, Father God. Thank you for not being so furious with me. Today, let me not take advantage of Your kindness to me. You are the Lord God. Amen
