II. One thing the Bible teaches: (Joseph's brothers were out pasturing, Jacob wanted
Joseph to go to visit both them and the flock for him...)
13 And Israel said to Joseph, “Are your brothers not pasturing the flock in Shechem? Come, and I will send you to them.” And he said to him, “I will go.” . . . So Joseph went after his brothers and found them at Dothan. 18 When [the brothers] saw [Joseph] from a distance, and before he came closer to them, they plotted against him to put him to death.
III. Reflection
* Questions: Did the elderly Jacob know that his other sons were wicked? Did the elderly Jacob know that he was sending Joseph into his own peril in this mission?
IV. Application:
Dear Lord God: For the elder Jacob may not know that his other sons were wicked to the extent that they could harm their own flesh and blood, he sent his beloved Joseph right into them.
Because the younger Joseph may not be aware of the danger awaiting him from his own flesh and blood, he went to actively look for them.
The elder Jacob knew not but You--Lord God--knew full well what the people of the world would do to Your beloved Son; You sent Your beloved Son to them, regardless.
The young Joseph knew not but You--Lord Jesus--knew full well the danger awaiting You from Your own people; You went ahead to seek them, nevertheless. And You still lovingly called them: "My own" (John 10:14-15)! O Lord Jesus: please encourage me to let people know that You love them that much on that cross. Today. Amen
