Give without being asked, Do without being demanded...

II. One thing the Bible teaches: (The Lord spoke to Noah and his family, saying...)

“Behold, I establish my covenant with you and your offspring after you, 10 and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the livestock, and every beast of the earth with you, as many as came out of the ark; it is for every beast of the earth. 11 I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” 12 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations:

III. Reflection

Questions: In the short passage above, how many times did God say that He made the covenant? Who asked for the covenant? Who sought the agreement?

IV. Application:

Dear Lord God: I thank You for showing me that You repeated three times to say and reassure Noah and his family that You made the covenant. Not only did You make the covenant with them, but also with other living creatures that You saved from the Great Flood. And they did not ask that You did so. Neither did they demand that You did so. I thank You for taking me to this point to remind me that You reached down to the lowest level to do what we did not even know was needed. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for coming down from heaven to become human. This was done so that You can be with us to die for us. Thank You for giving Yourself when it was not asked. Thank You for making the sacrifice when it was not demanded.

O God! Please help me practice reaching down to others without waiting to be asked. Amen
