At first, it sounds logical, but it's really ill.

II. One thing the Bible teaches:

Now there was a famine in the land, besides the former famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Gerar to Abimelech king of the Philistines. And the Lord appeared to him and said, “Do not go down to Egypt; dwell in the land of which I shall tell you... So Isaac settled in Gerar.

III. Reflection

Questions: What sounds logical in the above Scripture passage? What makes it ill?

IV. Application:

Dear Lord God: I thank You for showing me that Egypt was the breadbasket of the world at that time. Your people were facing a very serious famine. And so, going to Egypt to seek food was a very logical thing to do. But You commanded Your people not to go to Egypt while facing the famine! I thank You, Lord, for taking me to this point to remind me that You--not Egypt--is my refuge and my fortress. I trust in You (Ps. 91:2). Thank You, Lord, that because Isaac did not go to Egypt, that year he experienced a harvest that was a hundredfold even during the time of famine in the region! Not going to Egypt allowed him to experience God's miracle. O God! Please convict me of any Egypt currently in my life. Please help my obedience to Your instruction even when doing something else may sound logical at first. Amen
